SIGNIFICANCE OF ISO/TS 16949:2002
ISO/TS 16949:2002 (TS = Technical Specification) combines the automotive industry’s many different requirements (QS-9000, VDA 6.1., EAQF and AVSQ) for quality management systems into one. ISO/TS 16949:2002 is recognized by automotive industries worldwide (European, Asian and American). The Big 3 in the United States – DaimlerChrysler, General Motors and Ford – are phasing out QS-9000, making ISO/TS 16949:2002 their mandatory requirement. ISO/TS 16949:2002 specifies the requirements placed on QM systems for the design (development), production and, where applicable, instal-lation and maintenance of automotive products. It applies to products or production material at all sites where manufacturers, or their suppliers, pro-duce products or services, or for services such as heat treatment, paint spraying, galvanising or other surface treatments or other products specified by the customer.
